Dear colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 5th Croatian Congress of Microbiology with International Participation to be held in Primošten, Croatia, on September 26-30, 2012.

We continue the twenty-year-long tradition of fruitfull meetings with intresting sessions covering all major topics of microbiology. The Congress will include two plenary (keynote) lectures, sessions with two introductory invited lectures, oral and poster presentations, as well as extra time devoted to the scientific achievements of young scientists, the recipients or ex-recipients of FEMS research fellowships.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, UK

The group of Sophien Kamoun at The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL), John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK, studies effector biology in filamentous plant pathogens, particularly oomycetes such as the Irish famine organism Phytophthora infestans.

Daslav Hranueli

University of Zagreb, Croatia

Prof. Daslav Hranueli has got his BSc, MSc and PhD from the University of Zagreb and spent several years as a research fellow at the Universities of Oxford, Wales and Kaiserslautern where he specialised in traditional and molecular genetics, as well as in bioinformatics.

Ferenc Rozgonyi is a professor at the Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, 16 congress proceedings, 52 book chapters and 5 books.

Angela Sessitsch is a Bioresources Unit Head at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH. Her main research interest is to better understand how bacterial endophytes interact with plants with the aim to develop applications based on beneficial plant-microbe interactions.

János Varga’s fields of research include Mycotoxin production by Aspergilli on various agricultural products, Molecular systematics of Aspergilli and MSexual reproduction in Aspergilli.
