Dear Collegues,

I extend a warm welcome to everyone attending the TransMedRi Workshop on Bacterial Pathogenesis and Host Response.
Understanding microbial pathogenesis demands a detailed knowledge of the host response as well as the pathogen itself, and requires an interdisciplinary approach, integrating the fields of microbiology, cell-biology, biochemistry and immunology, with an aim to translate basic insights into the clinical disciplines. The TransMedRi meeting is planned to facilitate such interactions. We believe that the only sustainable approach to translational research lies in the creation of collaborative teams of clinicians and laboratory-based investigators.
