Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the third Central European Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance, CESAR 2009 that will take place on 23-26 September 2009 in Zadar, Croatia. CESAR 2009 will be organised by the Croatian Microbiological Society in collaboration with the Microbiological Societies from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. The Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) has recognised CESAR 2009 as a pan-European meeting and as a consequence of the FEMS Meeting Support Grant CESAR 2009 will provide a number of travel grants for students.
A faculty of respected and internationally recognised speakers from across Europe has been established for CESAR 2009 to discuss the antimicrobial resistance and the resulting health problems. Although the main topic of the symposium will be research into antimicrobial resistance in Central Europe, CESAR 2009 will also consider this phenomenon as a pan-European challenge.
There is no doubt that antimicrobial resistance is a major but unavoidable problem. The use, overuse and abuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents in human and veterinary medicine certainly facilitates resistance in many different pathogens. Increased antimicrobial resistance in bacteria that are important human pathogens and the spread of resistance from closed hospital environments into open communities are increasingly perceived as threats to public health. In addition to the exciting scientific programme, the participants will be able to enjoy Croatian hospitality and culture in a beautiful Mediterranean setting. The town of Zadar was established around the Roman forum and is one of the oldest cultural cities on the Adriatic coast. It is easily-accessible by road on the new highway, by air to the local airport, by sea ferry or by rail. Don't miss this opportunity to participate in what promises to be exciting few days at CESAR 2009.
We're looking forward to welcome you to Zadar/Croatia.
